Fred Allison Research Excellence Award
The Fred Allison Research Excellence Award is based on the nominee's contribution to research and mentoring and its impact within UMMC's Department of Medicine. Key criteria includes, but not limited to:
- Scientific impact and significance of the nominee's research
- Innovation and improvement to the field
- Productivity (publications)
- Funding (extramural and intramural)
- Demonstration of a long-term commitment to research and mentoring
- Serving as a role model
Eligibility requirements
- Nominees must have a primary faculty appointment in UMMC's Department of Medicine
- Nominees should have an active research program and a sustained record of conducting high quality research and mentoring in medicine over time.
- Nominees may include basic, population, clinical or translational researchers/mentors.
Exclusions
- Prior recipients of the Fred Allison Research Award within last three years are ineligible.
- Self-nominations and posthumous nominations will not be accepted.
Nomination process
Nominators must be mentees of the nominee or colleagues who have personal knowledge of the nominee’s research and mentoring efforts. Self-nomination is not allowed. Nominations and nomination materials must be submitted by the primary nominator.
Nominations and supporting materials are due by Monday, February 24, 2020. Please submit all nomination materials by email to Kim McGuire.
Nominators must submit the following:
- A letter from the nominator summarizing the nominee’s impact and contribution to medical knowledge and practice by his/her research and mentoring activities (may include the nominee’s academic, clinical, and educational achievements). The letter is limited to two single-spaced pages using at least 11- point font.
- A second letter of support. This letter of support should provide reviewers with helpful insights about the contribution of the research accomplishments to the discipline.
- The nominee’s curriculum vitae
Selection process
Final evaluation of nomination materials and recipient selection will be conducted by the Fred Allison Research Award Selection Committee, comprised of members of the DOM Research Council Executive Committee. The award will only be made should a qualified researcher be nominated.
Award presentation
The award will be presented March 31, 2020, at the Department of Medicine’s Research Day awards ceremony.
